Yes, as others said: you will get "punished" by paintball bullets.

Also for the screen to draw correctly (it's a 360 screen but only in front of you it is drawing) and for the "treadmills" to work correctly the character orientation and position needs to be known so therefore it's pretty easy to know where you are.
