For Linux, the .NET version needs to be v3 or lower because anything higher does not install correctly. As you could guess the addon .NET version will be v3 and this will force the plugins to be v3 too.

The fix is simple:

• Go to project properties
  
• Change the Target Framework to: .NET Framework 3.0

Nothing major to be concerned about really, the problem on Linux lies with LINQ not being able to install with Wine on .NET Framework 3.5 and above.

You should also update addon.dll, currently if you want to add it as reference it requires .net4
