It is. Without names or headicons it's impossible to tell friends from enemies though.
All the headicons do is let you tell the difference.
I can only see benefits from this:
1) The headicons float higher, so they don't annoy your sight.
2) You can tell it's one of your own, but you don't know the name of the guy.
3) They are pretty.
4) Lets you do tactical stuff.
5) The reality part in the headicons is that in a real COD situation, the soldiers usually inform each other about their position through radio. This is that radio system, the only difference is that this is visual.
6) I can tell you that they improve the gameplay for the better.
Yes, they are still unrealistic, but that'll be the only unrealistic thing I'm letting slide, for the sake of gameplay.

edit; good idea, but if you really want it to be realistic, disable them, IRL there aren't any headicons either

Unless you feel like editing every single player-skin, I don't see another choice.

Also, that dosen't sound so realistic...
So here's another idea...
(Like in BBC2)
Make each team have X ammount of lifes, so when they respawn the life ammount is -1.
If you shoot your teammate, then the life ammount for your team is will be -2.
(His death, and one life less because of penalty reasons)
Also, you could make the respawning time take some extra time if he have killed a teammate during his life.

to make it easy: every time you team kill someone +10 sec respawn time. So second team kill would be 20 sec, third 30 sec. But if you die normally you wouldn't have to wait.

When you kill a teammate, give other teammates permission to kill you for points like a normal enemy.

If I got sent to Afghanistan and a faggot on my squad shot 2 of my teammates, I would kick him out of the squad/leave him in the desert, if not kill him.
Also, I've been trying to disable automatic weapon reloading/switching when clip reaches 0, without any luck. Does anyone know if there is a way, other than to edit every single weapon file?
