Guys I'm getting my new pc soon and so far I was going to get the i5 cpu. But, taking some benchmarks into cosideration together with the fact that the fx 8150 is an octacore cpu, which means it has double the number of 2500k's cores, I started thinking of buying the amd chip instead. Also, I want to o/c hard in the future and that is another advantage of the amd fully-unlocked chip over the intel one. Talking about the future, in some games benchmarks the 2500k beats the fx 8150 for now, but in the future most games will probably utilise all cores (proven by battlefield 3 already, in which the 2500k is beaten badly by the fx 8150); so taking also into consideration that I want to keep this pc for at least 5 years without any upgrades and even when I do need them, I am simply going to overclock to catch up, I believe the amd chip is better to buy in the long term, but I still do need some help to decide
My gpu will be the ATI 7870 or the 7950 if I can afford it (Another thing that crossed my mind is that an amd cpu along with an amd gpu would be an amazing combination in terms of performance).
My ram will be the corsair vengeance 8GB --> another question: I heard the amd fx series cpus use 1GB of ram per core so will the 8GB be overkill for gaming with this cpu?
Furthermore, is the GIGABYTE 990XA-UD3 motherboard good enough for a gaming pc?
I know these are a lot of questions for you guys to answer so thanks a lot in advance!

Don't EVER choose an AMD CPU.. i5 2500K is a hell of a lot better than the AMD FX 8150.

Also 1 problem is that his MOBO only supports AMD CPU's..

U MAD BRO? Even the comparison you provided shows fx 8150's domination over the 2500k
Also, I don't care about the mobo's capability of supporting intel cpus as I'm not going to upgrade this pc for 5 years at least and the cpu is the last thing I will change so...

yea but... 8 cores? the i5 could be the better for this year and probably the next one, but the fx should be better in the long term because it has more cores... I don't know, these are only my thoughts; that's why I'm asking

Well if your so gunhole for the amd fx get the thing, to me it looks like you've done your research and your not going to change your mind for any given facts. the GPU is more important for most games so even if you like the i5 just a *tad* bit better, its not worth it since amd fx is so much cheaper. I use an i5 because I've done my research on it and see intel as the dominating company and see AMD crumbling down shortly. If you do research on the actual AMD chip you'd be surprised how pathetic it is, the amd fx uses 2 billion transistors, while i5 only has 1,150 million, with very close if not better performance over AMD. the architecture just sucks flat ass on AMD and that's why I use intel, but good luck anyway.
P.S for the overclocking, intel seriously is the king. I have my i5 running at 4.5GHz on stock cooling, and a friend has an i5 with liquid cooling @ 5.6GHz.

Thanks a lot for sharing your research with me man. Well, I wil get the 2500k with an asus p8z77-v lx mobo, as the 8 cores of the fx8150 not only don't help in single-threaded apps like games, but they are also very weak. I have been using intel so far and trust them, while I am convinced AMD sucks in CPUs but rocks in GPUs
